Double-body bookcase,
France, late 19th century.
Walnut veneer
with warm, deep grain,
applied to a solid oak frame.
Ebonized decorations on the edges, uprights, and frames.
The upper part features two large glass doors
with sinuous, contoured profiles.
Inside, the space is divided by sturdy shelves that can be adjusted in height
thanks to the original wooden rack system,
perfect for supporting heavy weights.
The top is dominated by a splendid cornice
richly hand-carved
with rocaille motifs and leafy scrolls.
The lower part is closed by two walnut paneled doors,
and inside, the space is divided in the center by a single shelf.
The piece retains its antique, contemporary locks,
in perfect working order, and
rests on sturdy, flattened onion-shaped feet.
Restored and shellac polished inside and out
