French boiserie bookcase from the second half of the 19th century,
originally commissioned as paneling
for a music room in a castle beyond the Alps.
Made of walnut for all visible and supporting parts,
including all the period internal shelves,
it is supported by a structure with back panels and
structural parts in solid oak.
The piece is distinguished by its wavy lines
on both the front and sides,
a rare feature.
Above the large doors are
hand-carved asymmetrical gables;
the right section features iconographic elements
dedicated to musical instruments,
attesting to its original intended use.
The curvature of the body and sides
is faithfully reproduced by historic, heat-curved glass.
The wainscoting is designed for study:
it includes pull-out walnut drawers under the top of each module
for consulting scores or large volumes,
while the lower section houses internal drawers.
The furniture currently has a horseshoe-shaped configuration
following a modification that affected only the right side,
making it deeper.
Since the original back panel
has been preserved in this section as well,
the modification is easily reversible:
the piece can be dismantled and returned
to its original linear configuration or
adapted to different configurations.
