Hand-hewn and hand-carved white stone tub
Northern Italy, 18th century.
Tubs of this type, without holes in the bottom,
were used, among other things,
for decanting olive oil.
Decorated on the front with a diamond-shaped engraving.
The four corners are beveled vertically
to prevent injury from bumping into them.
The same beveling on the base suggests
that it was placed on a medium-height plinth.
Iron hooks were embedded in the edges,
probably used to move it.
Only the front hook remains intact.
Thanks to the two holes, it can be used
as a drinking trough, a flowerpot, or a sink.
The dimensions indicated are the maximum.
The internal dimensions of the holes are 34 x 44 cm.
The internal depth is 42 cm.
